Network Members from Lifestyle Hearing Win 2 Awards at the Canadian Academy of Audiology’s Annual Conference
Victoria, British Columbia, October 21st, 2011: Recently, several members of the Lifestyle Hearing Network were presented with awards from the Canadian Academy of Audiology (CAA). Members were recognized for both their philanthropy and dedication to the academy.
Eric McKeown, of Capital Hearing Clinic in Kanata Ontario; Brad Allard, of Allard Audiology in Scarborough Ontario; Andrea Graham, of Heritage Hearing Care Inc. in Pembroke Ontario; Carri Johnson, of Near North Hearing Centre in North Bay Ontario; Amanda Kirkpatrick, of Saint John Audiology in Saint John New Brunswick; Sheri MacGregor, of Highland Hearing Clinic Ltd. in Antigonish Nova Scotia; Mandy Rhody, of Auditory Health Care in Walkerton Ontario; and Devon Taaffe, of Fundy Audiology in Saint John New Brunswick, were awarded with the Moneca Price Humanitarian Award.
In November 2010, a number of these audiologists travelled to Yamasa, a small town in the Dominican Republic, to screen and test local residents who had poor hearing health. In March 2011, a larger contingency of audiologists returned to Yamasa and conducted full hearing tests on those who failed the screenings in November. All together, they fitted 28 hearing aids on persons of all ages. Eric McKeown remembers how emotional the trip was: “A 9 year old girl, considered deaf in the local community, heard for the first time while her mother wept with joy.” The group is back in Yamasa in November 2011 and March 2012 for a second mission.
Carri Johnson, who practices in North Bay Ontario, was also presented with the Academy’s President’s Award. This award acknowledges an individual’s outstanding contribution to CAA. Carri has been actively involved with CAA for 11 years as the Chair of the Conference Committee, Chair of the Auction Committee, a member of the Board of Directors, and President. After being asked how she felt about receiving the award, Carri said that she was “very honoured” and that she’d like to “encourage all audiologists in Canada to get involved with CAA and/or their provincial/territorial association.” She believes it is important to give the profession a voice.
Lifestyle Hearing is very proud of the hard work and dedication produced by its members. Congratulations to all of you!!
